Pregnancy and Caffeine: Is It Risky?

General perception about caffeine consumption is that it is not good for those females who are trying to conceive especially in large quantities.
Pregnancy and caffeine is interrelated in a way that caffeine directly affects the health of the fetus if consumed in large proportions. According to the march of dimes, pregnant women should limit the consumption of caffeine during pregnancy to less than 200mg a day. This is further prompted by the medical studies in which it has been found that mothers consuming more than 200mg a day are with risk of a miscarriage with double ratio.  Beside the risk of miscarriage, there are certain health concerns as well. Caffeine has the ability to constrict blood vessels and reduce placental blood flow. The caffeine crosses the placenta via bloodstream and directly affects the developing cells of the baby. Also the risk of the still birth increases in those women who consume caffeine. Some of the medical researchers say that consumption of caffeine reduces the weight of the baby. This means low birth weight of the baby is also the outcome of using caffeine in large quantities.
Along with caffeine you need to avoid smoking as well. Why to avoid smoking during pregnancy? Smoke emit by the cigarette may block the supply of oxygen and blood to the baby and thus may lead to developmental and learning disabilities. Smoke contains carcinogens, tar, lead and carbon monoxide which directly go into the fetus through placenta passage by mixing in blood stream. Smoking may also lead to vaginal bleeding, placental abruption and placenta previa which mean low lying of placenta and most importantly, stillbirth of the fetus.
While you are pregnant, it is better to have the intake of probiotics. The usage or intake of probiotics during pregnancy is good for the health of the fetus. Most of the females are with the question or with the confusion, are probiotics safe during pregnancy? Yes, as the probiotics contain healthy or good bacteria. The benefits that are associated with the intake of the probiotics are numerous. The health of the digestive system gets enhanced. Also, the immune system of the human body get strengthens if regular use of probiotics is being done by the pregnant women. It helps in the prevention of the allergies in children.
Consequently, it is quite clear that caffeine and smoking are not supposed to be good for the pregnant women and to be on the safer side it is better to quite both of them while you are pregnant. Probiotics usage is good as it helps in improving the health of the digestive system, immune system and urinary tract.
