How to Quit Smoking during Pregnancy?


Smoking is one of the bad habits and is adopted by many of the pregnant women. They are unaware of the fact that how it affects the growth and development of the baby. Simply, putting this way, it causes constriction in the blood vessels and limits the supply of oxygen and the nutrients to the fetus.
 For about, sixty cancer causing components are present in the cigarette and more than four thousand injurious ingredients are inside single cigarette. This means if the pregnant woman is smoking one cigarette she is inhaling four thousand components and is compromising on the health of her baby. How to quit smoking during pregnancy? There are many programs on smoking cessation that can help you out. You can ask your health care provider as well for effective ways of quitting. Some of the tips may help you to quit smoking. You can hide ashtrays, matches and lighters so when you feel the urge of smoking you may not find them. Your home must be smoking free area. Forbid people to avoid smoking around you who used to smoke more often. The reason is that second hand smoke is also dangerous for the baby. Try to consume less caffeine and forbid alcohol consumption. Their consumption increases the urge for smoking.  What are the risks of smoking during pregnancy? Stillbirth, miscarriage, premature delivery and low birth weight babies are some of the risks.
Apart from smoking, avoid caffeine as if you are not smoking and having caffeine then you may not be able to control your urge for smoking. Caffeine activates the metabolism and enhances the heart rate and the blood pressure. There is a criticism on pregnancy and caffeine as there are certain health risks like miscarriage, insomnia, heartburn etc. the pregnant women may feel the jittery feeling and indigestion after taking caffeine. Caffeine during pregnancy slows down the natural development of the baby. The baby is immature so he is unable to metabolize caffeine and it starts accumulating into the blood stream. 
  To quit smoking and caffeine is good but to adopt the habit of taking probiotics during pregnancy is a good one. Pregnancy in itself helps certain bad bacteria to grow and cause intestinal upsets like diarrhea, and constipation. Are probiotics safe during pregnancy? Yes, they are safe as they kill bad bacteria and helps in restoring the balance of good bacteria. If we compare the effectiveness of probiotics with antibiotics then we come to know that they are with certain side effects whereas probiotics are not. Antibiotics kill both the bad and the good bacteria. This leads to poor or week immunity.
