Gaining right amount of weight is important as otherwise
pregnant women may face certain complications. Women who gain too much may have
early labor or have large babies. Such babies are delivered by caesarian
operation. Underweight women would likely to deliver a baby which weighs less
than 5 ½ pounds.
In general, pregnant women may not need extra intake of
calories in the start of the pregnancy. In the second trimester, the ratio of
calories intake increase up to 300 calories which is apart from the routine
intake. In the third trimester, the need for calories increases up to 450. How
much weight to gain during pregnancy? Gaining weight from 25 to 35
pounds is recommended to be gained at the end of the pregnancy. What to eat
during pregnancy? Fruits and vegetables must be taken in daily routine as they
are source of vitamins, nutrients and more importantly fiber which helps in
prevention from constipation and improve function of digestion. Eat four to
five proportions of fruits and vegetables. Always wash them properly before
using. Cook vegetables lightly means they must not be overcooked. Starchy foods
must also be present in daily eating like potatoes, cereals, rice, noodles,
maize, oats, cornmeal and bread. Protein intake should also be good enough in
the diet plan of the pregnancy which is present inside, meat, eggs, fish,
beans, nuts and pulses. Eating two portions of fish in a week is being advised
by health experts.
Smoking is one of the main causes of reducing growth of baby.
The only way to keep away all of the risks
of smoking during pregnancy is to avoid smoking. It is being researched
that if smoking is not done in the first three months of pregnancy then there
are chances that defects of brain and spinal cord would not develop. Effects of
smoking during pregnancy are numerous and badly damage the growing cells of the
baby. Preterm delivery is one of the common outcome in which the body organs of
the baby are not formed completely.
